patrickpearse, I have been in many debates before with people, who have different view points and they have been abusive towards me because they disagree with something I have said. Yes, I have been on loyalist sites to debate issues with them, but they seem to just delete my posts or just ban me from their sites altogether even if I haven't said anything offensive. Yes, I have been called taig scum, tramp, etc. including more offensive words that I wish not to repeat on here. You are right about the importants of understanding each other from opposite sides and being able to discuss things in a civil manner. Maybe a different strategy is needed from the republican movement to help the unionist people towards accepting Irish unity. Maybe encouragement might be a way forward. Both loyalists and republicans flute bands do march in parade carrying their flags. I have a few friend's that are members of some of the republican flute bands. Yes, they do support united Ireland under an Irish rule and support the IRA. They also march to remember the dead. I am guessing that loyalists do the same by marching in parades to remember their dead and support Ulster staying British including supporting the UDA/UVF. I don't really like to say too much about the marching issues as this is very sensitive to both sides. A republican flute band that had told me a few years ago that they preferred to march in their own area because they don't want to upset their unionist neighbours. That made sense to me to march in your own areas because then the event is more peaceful that way, but that is just my opinion.

S, first I would like to thank you for not being abusive in your reply to me. I do agree with you that the hatred does need to be dealt with, but it is very hard for many that have lost love ones on both sides. All sides planted bombs, etc. and trust is a two-way thing. I feel that sectarian attacks, which are still going on today is a problem that needs to dealt with. I certainly don't want any violence to return as there as been too many loses of life over the years. Now that Sinn Fein has a say in the changes in the North it can now move forwards on a political road rather then an armed struggle. All of my republican friend's, and one unionist friend from the North, do support a peaceful way forwards. Since the PIRA have had a ceasefire many lives have been saved even on their own side.
Why would i be abusive ?, it is the free speach attitude of this web master that has attracted me to this guest book in the search of honest debate , ive tried on numerous Republican web sites in the past and been ridiculed as a Brit Bastard and an Orange Bastard , but i genuinly seek a republican point of view , as i say Alison if we never talk we will never progress, You & I will never solve Irelands ancient problems but atleast maybe those who can talk can atleast begin to understand each other .
So you would agree that a different strategy is needed from the Republican movement to make the Unionist Population (its people & its culture) feel welcomed and in the hope that one day they could come round to accepting a 32 county or 4 county Irish State ?
I strongly feel that the present climate has people saying within themselves " we are going to have to --- but how can i when this and that is like this" , people need to see genuine warmth and no victory parades down the Falls waving the ticolor from open top vehicals , a lot of thinking has to be done and if its not done properly IMO we will all be heading back to the dark days of before 1994 .

Hello, I'm not a member of the this band, but I do have many republican friends some who support the peace process and some that don't support the peace process because they feel that united Ireland won't be achieved in that way. I agree with you that changes will come with the consent of the Unionist people included. That is why peace is important for the North of Ireland to build new bridges between them. In my opinion, I just feel that it will take many years before this can be achieved. Republicans feel strongly about Irish unity and Loyalists feel strongly about Ulster staying British. I just wish there was an answer that both sides can live with in peace, but I do think that united Ireland under Irish rule is the way forwards for Ireland. It has been united under British rule then divided and it hasn't worked.
Thank You Alison
Trying to look at things from a Republican/Nationalist point of view i think imo The progression on that side has been Huge , i honestly believe that the Majority of Loyalists/Unionists know and now expect a United Ireland of some sort at some time , they dont wish it , but Britain (and the British Ulster people well know it) dont want any part of NI and they obviously wish to wash their hands of the Age old Problem,
but you can see levels of Hatred & Stuborness within the Majority of Unionists flamed by Memories of Bombs , Killings and the frequent attempted politic of Bias , and a simple mistrust of anything from the Other side, Unionists/Loyalists i feel need to trust before they can move on and to gain that trust .
The Hatred level has to be dealt with now, Both sides sufferered we all know that but a united ireland against the will of the 1.2 Million protestants is never going to work, we would be leaving it all open for a new Generation of extremism and with extremism we have a great chance of Violence, and we dont want that do we , well certainly those in sain mind dont !!!
As the song says Four Green Fields , One of them in Bondage ,
The workings must now be to try and gain the confidence of the PUL population , taking out the Hatred and the resistance to that communities traditions and ofcoarse Religion, a state of mind has to be built where the Ulster Unionist can say "well i dont really have that much to fear anymore inside a United Ireland" if it is not then where do we go ?
round in circles if you ask me !!! .
S
(Posted on 2008-01-31 04:16:00 by ) -
S, you claim that "at the end of the day you cant seriously expect to force or bully the Ulster Unionist population into change its got to be with consent only ."

Iam a Unionist living in Glasgow and ive been watching Republican thinking over the past 3 years via web sites etc , 1st of all i must praise your web master on letting free debate on this guest book ,talking has been the reason for progression in northern Ireland so that very tactic through Loyalist & Republican web sites (as long as its kept constructive ) should be welcomed by all.
Can i ask the Question of what Drives republicans on and at what point will Republicans be satisfied and content ?
I know the obvious answers , Our day will come, British Ocupation , British Presence Out of Ireland etc but surely those claims and the old republican attitudes are now out of line with modern day Politic , things have moved on and the British Government have stated that they have no interest in the state of Northern Ireland and its now the 1.2 Million Protestants & Others who vote Unionist that have to be convinced that a 32 or 4 ?? County Ireland in whatever shape or form is the future for them and their future generations to live , it is they who have to be convinced now not the British Government , at the end of the day you cant seriously expect to force or bully the Ulster Unionist population into change its got to be with consent only .

Fao Rab (A Well Known Kirkintilloch 'Loyalist') i have approved your post under these reasons; we feel at the band to promote free speech and donât condone censorship.
As for Kirkintilloch being a test after the yesterday march being very well supported and the people n the march conducting them self with dignity under some slight provocation by the 25 or so protestersâ answers that point
As for the republican murders we will not dignify that with an answer, we see all Volunteers and not for getting members of the local community who lost the life in the war as courageous people.

Kirkintilloch will be a Test for You, can You keep up the False Identification that you carry? Or will your True Colours come out?
The Poor Men who Died in the Bothy Fire of '37 would turn in their graves if they knew you were stealing their Platform to promote Irish Terrorism, and lets not kid yourselves on here, You promote Republican Murderers by showing their names on your Band, Names, Uniforms and Bass Drums.
Cairde Na hErireann = ???
Friends of Ireland = Friends of Terrorism !!!
Enjoy your attempt at a parade tommorrow, for it will be your last...

Laughing at Calton radio
Who is LAUGHLING at who now Calton radio thought republicans wouldnât march in Kirkintilloch, heard the British People party have declared there intentions to protest at the anti racism event this probably went a long way to getting the march and rally approved, that and I heard there was a serious lack of objectors to the event.
Cant wait for this now us republicans in Kirki will be out in force for this one, is Iv heard there is news of a band starting up this way any info?
