Volunteer Sean Mcilvenná - 2nd Batt, North Armagh Brigade Killed In Action 17th December 1984.

Born in 1951, Sean originated from North Belfast, but moved south to Dundalk during the early 70's. He was married to Pat and had seven young children at the time of his death. The 33 year old Gaelic enthusiast's life came to an end on the 17th December 1984 after a gun battle with the R.U.C in Blackwaterstown, County Armagh.

An active member in the Republican Movement Sean was killed after he was spotted by the R.U.C retreating from the scene of a landmine attack on a U.D.R patrol vehicle.

Himself and another Volunteer made their way across a field to an adjacent road were they were met by the R.U.C who opened fire on them killing Sean. Those who knew Sean as a person stated he was anxious to get the job done, always pushing to get results, a brilliant organiser and a humorous man a credit to the Republican movement.

Also we have a memorial page to one of Sean friends and comrades Harry McCartney please stop by and find out more about Harry.
